So today we want to talk to you about how to reduce waste, to maximize output. In this case, we’re talking about resources in your company, which can be in a lot of things. But let’s talk about people. So imagine your team of ten has been reduced to three.
What do you do to maintain the same output or even a greater output with less people? Now the first thing we would say is find things that the team doesn’t need to be doing. Either remove them completely or automate them to give time back to your people to do the things that are most critical in the moment.
Yeah. Recently we took a process that involved three people. Multiple steps, multiple manual steps. We met with an automation expert for about an hour and we were able to reduce that to one person, and then the rest was automated. Save us a ton of time. Yeah. And another thing to think about is what is your team uniquely qualified to do?
We love asking that question when determining whether to do something and house or potentially to ask a trusted outside vendor or freelancer to help us with something. It’s a really great way to expand your team temporarily and make sure that your team is really focused on what they are uniquely qualified to do.
If you’re really clear on what your goals are, then you can align those to the seats. The team needs to have to accomplish what you need to accomplish and then align your people to those seats so that you’re getting the right skills on the right challenges at the right time.
The last thing I’d say is reduce the time that the team is spending on things that aren’t pushing the work forward. The biggest thing with that is meetings. Everybody would love to have fewer meetings and there always are meetings that could be less frequent or shorter.
We’re not mandatory or different people or just remove completely just to maximize the time that your team spends on the most important things. Yeah, I think about that. Team of three could really benefit from a daily stand up just 15 minutes quickly to gather. What did you get done the day before?
What’s your priority for today and is anything blocking you? Are you stuck on anything? It’s a really good way to keep that team of three really close and allow them to connect every day. Yeah. So you kind of borrow from reduce, reuse, recycle that the three tips or remove things that the team doesn’t need to be doing. Reassign things to the people who are best fit to do it.
And then reduce the amount of time spent on things that aren’t absolutely critical.
