Hi, I’m Dustin. I’m the Senior Director of Strategy at Element Three. Today, we’re going to talk about digitization, digital transformation. When things get tough, people tend to want to take their eye away from automating things or investing in software. Here’s why I’m going to tell you that’s a bad idea.

When you think about transforming digital, it doesn’t mean digital marketing. We’re talking about processes and data across your organization. Yeah, it could be marketing analytics. That’s part of it.

It could have to do with data and reporting, but it’s also sales data. It’s supply data. It’s finance. It’s production. Any part of your business where there’s information, getting that digitized is helpful for creating predictive analytics models, for really extending your ability to understand what’s going on with your business, which when sales are down or budgets are frozen, having that information and knowing what trends are impacting the business is even more critical than when budgets are flush or sales are coming in.

The other thing that I want you to keep in mind is that when you have that information in a place that’s digitized and you’ve got it online and able to be automated, then what you’re doing is instead of having your people, which are probably your best resource, instead of having your people working on having to manipulate the data, manually gathering it together and analyzing it, if it’s been digitized, you can automate that and you free up your peoples’ time to be able to do more important tasks.

So again, if you think about budgets are strapped sales are strapped, maybe you’ve had to have a reduction in force. Being able to have the people that you have doing the most important work rather than the menial paperwork. If you can automate some of those processes, again, whether that’s marketing, whether that’s supply chain management, whether it’s production scheduling, whatever it is, the more that you can digitize, the more you can free up your best minds to do critical thinking rather than menial work.

That’s going to be super, super important in a time where resources are strapped.
